About the Technique: Wire Cloisonné
Wire cloisonné involves raising extremely fine metal wires (mainly silver) to outline a design, filling the spaces with enamel, and firing the piece. Keiko Sera uses silver wire to delicately define the cats’ expressions, adding depth and shading with ink polishing. The silver lines function like brushstrokes in a painting, creating dynamic movement and personality. The final “ink-polishing” stage perfectly balances the enamel’s transparency with the silver’s shine, producing a three-dimensional, glass-like effect. This technique demands not only visual precision but also the artisan’s skill and sensitivity.
