Bring the warmth and beauty of traditional Japanese pottery to your table with this beautifully handcrafted Bizen Ware Ceramic Pouring Pot, created by Japanese ceramic artist Yayoi Shimizu in Okayama, Japan.
Designed as a convenient vessel for serving an additional portion of your favorite drink, this compact pouring pot combines traditional Bizen craftsmanship with thoughtful everyday functionality.
Its distinctive spout, shaped like a small bird's beak, allows liquids to be poured smoothly and precisely. With a capacity of approximately 250 ml (8.5 fl oz), it is the perfect size for keeping an extra serving of coffee, tea, or sake at the table.
Its simple yet characterful form also makes it useful as a milk pitcher, sauce server, dressing pot, or small flower vase.
A Versatile Pouring Pot for Everyday Use
The compact 250 ml capacity makes this vessel especially useful when you want to keep an extra serving close at hand without using a large pitcher.
☕ Coffee Serving Pot
Keep an additional serving of coffee at the table and enjoy a second cup whenever you like.
The natural clay surface of Bizen Ware can help create a softer, more mellow drinking experience.
🍵 Japanese Tea & Hojicha
Use it as a small serving pitcher for Japanese green tea or hojicha (roasted green tea).
The narrow spout allows for controlled pouring, making it easy to serve tea without disturbing the leaves.
🍶 Sake Pourer
The compact size is ideal for serving cold sake at the dining table.
The vessel can also be chilled before use to help keep the sake cool.
🥛 Milk Pitcher
With its 250 ml capacity, this pouring pot is also well suited to serving milk for coffee, tea, or café au lait.
🥣 Sauce & Dressing Server
Use it for dashi, ponzu, salad dressing, sauces, or other table condiments.
The slender spout allows you to pour small amounts with greater control.
🌿 Small Flower Vase
This versatile vessel can also be used as a small flower vase.
The bird-beak-shaped spout can help support individual stems and branches, while the natural Bizen clay creates a warm, understated backdrop for flowers.
A Bird-Beak-Shaped Spout
The most distinctive feature of this piece is its charming pouring spout.
Inspired by the shape of a bird's beak, it gives the vessel a subtle sense of character while also providing excellent pouring control.
The narrow opening allows liquids to flow in a thin, quiet stream, making even a simple act such as pouring tea or coffee feel graceful and intentional.
This balance of beauty and functionality is characteristic of Japanese craftsmanship.
The Beauty of Bizen Ware
Bizen Ware (Bizen-yaki) is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, with a history of approximately 1,000 years.
Traditional Bizen Ware is fired without a conventional glaze. Instead, the natural clay is transformed by the intense heat, ash, and atmosphere inside the kiln.
This firing process creates natural patterns and colors known as Hidasuki (scarlet markings), Goma (natural ash markings), and Botamochi, among others.
Because the movement of the flames and ash is never exactly the same, each piece develops its own unique appearance.
Made for Everyday Life
Yayoi Shimizu is committed to creating Bizen Ware that can be used in everyday life.
Her work combines traditional Japanese ceramic techniques with practical forms that feel natural in contemporary homes.
This pouring pot is a wonderful example: compact, versatile, and easy to incorporate into everyday meals and drinks while still carrying the unmistakable warmth of handmade Bizen pottery.

About the Artist – Yayoi Shimizu
Ceramic artist Yayoi Shimizu creates Bizen Ware in Okayama Prefecture, the historic home of Bizen pottery.
She fires her work in a large 16-meter semi-underground anagama kiln, where flames slowly circulate through the kiln and naturally create variations in color, texture, and firing effects.
The large kiln produces the bright, gentle clay surfaces and distinctive character found throughout her work.
Yayoi Shimizu places particular importance on creating Bizen Ware for everyday use, bringing the warmth of traditional Japanese pottery into ordinary moments.
Please Note: Every Piece Is Unique
This pouring pot is handmade from forming through the final firing.
Because Bizen Ware relies on natural firing rather than a uniform glaze, variations in color, texture, shape, and natural kiln effects are to be expected.
The piece you receive may differ slightly from the photographs.
These variations are not imperfections. They are an essential part of authentic handmade Bizen Ware and make every vessel a unique work of Japanese ceramic art.
